This 6 year old Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey could be called triple A or AAA but that has other connotations. It is the fancier version of Ancient Age.
Batch 4M Bottle 157 Finished in port wine barrels. 43.3% Fancy smancy! Very cool bottle design and how could port barrel aging be bad? Somewhat controversial as it is not traditional, but we are certainly not elitists so we have no problem with a little experimentation.
A blended American whiskey with little details: a blend of three well-aged whiskeys with no neutral spirits. So you can figure out what it isn't at least!
A friend of mine was in Tennessee and was at a liquor store reading labels to me to see if I needed anything for my collection. Over the phone he read the name of this bourbon and then added…”it has a classy bottle”…. and I was sold. I am a sucker for a nice bottle. Call me superficial, I know the liquor will be drunk! oh and... It is a high-rye straight bourbon; double gold medal winner at the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Finished in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks for 9 years. A double gold medal and Best Special Barrel Finish Bourbon at the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Hand crafted and triple pot distilled in virgin American white oak barrels. They say there are hints of toffee and spice. From Berkshire Mountain Distillers, Sheffield, MA – there first legal distillery since prohibition.
Each bottle has a distinctive cork with a letter imbedded into the picture of the horse. The idea is to collect all of the letters. This bottle was the letter L – We have are not even close to collecting of the corks to spell B L A N T O N S. Honestly, we are big fan's of cool bottles and gimmicks, but this is just a little too much. Bourbon was dumped on 2011.08.15 from barrel no 23 stored in warehouse 11 on rick # 2 – giving us bottle #104.
Jim Beam makes this bourbon which is made straight from the barrel and is totally uncut – if you couldn’t tell at 127 proof. Holy cow! Use this to start fires if you are desperate…. might be a great camping bourbon for that reason. A little goes a long way. Sometimes bourbon tasting requires adding branch water to bring out the bourbon’s natural flavors especially at such a high alcohol content. Batch number C03-I-16
Read the back of the bottle for a good story. To note, they don't produce their own whiskey, they do, however, use their copper still to re-distill it before 6 or so 7 years of on-site aging.
The “World’s Highest Distillery”. This is a 4x winner of Best American Blended (2016, 17, 18, and 2019) from the World Whiskies Awards and Bourbon of the Year in 2011 at the International Wine & Spirits Competition.
from caskers: Buck 8 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is matured for a minimum of eight years in new American oak casks under the intense Kentucky sun. As a result of this maturation process, the bourbon has a caramel color, along with an aroma of vanilla, dark fruits, creme brulée and honey. The aroma gives way to notes of cherries, maple syrup, waffle cones and wood spices on the palate, and leads to a finish accented by touches of caramel, charcoal and cocoa. The bourbon earned the Bronze Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and earned a score of 91 points from the Beverage Testing Institute. Pick up a bottle today!
Our first review of a bourbon will be Buffalo Trace Kentucky bourbon. This is a great bourbon to start with. It is very reasonably priced, easy to find and has a very mild taste that many people enjoy. We consider this a bourbon to rate other bourbons against.
No specific bottle number. The original Bulleit. A Kentucky straight bourbon made from limestone filtered water and considered a “frontier whiskey” using their words.
Batch 006 and is a limited production where they finish with an oxygen enrich accelerated process. This sounds fancy so keep reading to see if we liked it! First though let us explain this process a little more. They start with barrel-aged bourbon but instead of letting it age the old-fashioned way, in a warehouse, they use pressure changes and oxygen to control the aging process. This bottle was pressure aged for 6 months using charred white oak segments and a little science to deliver their product faster (www.clevelandwhiskey.com).
Bottled in Bond. This is the classic bourbon whiskey bottle, with the tapered neck and tall classy body. These bottles are sometimes referred to as lady legs because of the taper and style. The label is very classy and this bottle just looks good in your liqueur cabinet. You might have to buy it just to look that cool. Just saying…

A small batch Kentucky straight bourbon made from limestone filtered water and a special yeast recipe. In their own words “one of the world’s greatest bourbons”. Please read on to see our perspective.
Aged in the rickhouses lower floors provide a slower aging process. Master Distillers sample barrels and select those to become the Elijah Craig 23-Year-Old Single Barrel.
8-12 yr. Bearing the name of Rev. Elijah Craig, credited as the first to age his whiskey in charred oak barrels. Full body for a warm spice and subtle smoke flavor.
A single barrel sour mash Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey. The man himself was George T. Stagg Distillery’s first Master Distiller and started his career their when Col. Albert B. Blanton was their President.
This bourbon is a steal! It almost made us pass it on as a bottom shelf no name drink, but that would have been a major mistake. This is a real whiskey and should certainly be included in everyone’s collection. Do not let the cheap price tag fool you. My only comment is: why is Makers so much more… and forget some of the other drinks!
2 distinct oak barrels. Finished in French Oak barrels. The bottle tested was Batch 1, Bottle 3955 and was purchased in Washington DC. This is a 45% alcohol bourbon. This is a novelty type bourbon, and got some great reviews on-line and in magazines. We are lucky to have a bottle, but now that we tried it…we are stuck with a bottle.
Four Roses has many many variations – we feel they are all in a similar flavor and unfortunately for us it falls more in line with a nice mixer rather than a straight up sipping bourbon. We will likely review many of the Four Roses bands, so stay tuned, we might find one we like.
A solera aged bourbon. Solera for those of you, like us, that needed to look it up is a "stack of barrels where a small portion of whiskey is removed periodically and new whiskey is added." That is Hillrocks definition. They ensure that no barrell is e

’s website states that this is the first legal pot-distilled whiskey made in New York since prohibition. This was gift for Jason after his wife had a fantastic weekend in New York City. This was a present and is really neat to have in your cabinet for guests to try. We must mention that this is a unique bourbon as it 100% corn and made in Gardinier, New York.

Aged at Sea takes older bourbon barrels and brings it around the world. Stopping in 5 different continents and crossing the equator 4 times, this bourbon truly is a world beater.

Jefferson’s found aged whiskeys to bottle under the Jefferson’s Presidential label of various whiskies ages from 15 to even 30 years.
This is the staple bourbon of our generation (the young winner generation!). The bourbon everyone knows, the bourbon everyone starts drinking and the bourbon the market cannot get enough of. The company was considering, but has since decided not to, a reduction in the alcohol content by 3%. This would have been accomplished by adding water to meet the insane market demand. All bourbon drinkers know this brand and many still like it as a go-to drink. After trying so many Bourbons, many of our friends that are serious bourbon drinkers never buy it again. See our review and you will know why….remember we like sweet bourbon, not earthy spicy bourbon as a norm.
On 8.15.11 it was dumped from barrel no 23 stored in warehouse 11 on rick # 2 – giving us bottle #104. 12 year – Birthday Bourbon 2012 – aged in oak casks. Old Forester puts out a new birthday bourbon each year. Some years are better than others. So as soon as 2013 is bottled and distributed it will be hard to find past years. These are really kind of fun to collect and compare year to year. Unfortunately they are often hard to find and have a much more spicy flavor than we normally enjoy. A few of the other companies put out yearly or experimental bourbons (like Buffalo Trace) and these might be better to collect if you share out pallet for sweet drinks.
The Orphan Barrel Whiskey Company uses orphaned barrels to bottle bourbon that once drunk are gone for ever. They bottle only in Tullahoma, Tennessee and from what we gather it is also a Diageo product. This particular bottle is a 20-year-old and of course a limited release. (Check them out at www.orphanbarrel.com).
Single Barrel Bourbon – check out the bottle! It is not weak. This was given to us as a gift from a Kentucky native. It is good having friends from Kentucky.
This is a great mixer for high end Manhattan’s – it really adds a nice spice and complexity to the drink. This bourbon is for people who like earthy spice in their drink.
American straight whiskey made with Kentucky Bourbon and aged in charred white oak barrels; per the distillery’s website. Sam Houston, born a Virginian, was known for bringing Texas into the United States – he is obviously the namesake of Houston.
Rye Whiskey dates back to the 1800’s and it was the Sazerac Coffee House on Royal Street (New Orleans) where a drink of Rye Whiskey and Peychaud’s Bitters was first called the “Sazerac”.
6 yrs. old 49.5% (101 proof) Batch 8; Bottle Date June 19, 2012; Bottled by JH; West Virginia. This was a brave choice considering the 101 proof of this whiskey. A proper bourbon guide review would best have been done with a splash of water. Brave… that is how we can describe our drinking!
Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey aged a minimum of four years in charred oak casks. John who lived between 1830-1906 and was a well-known US hatter. Now the company makes bourbon too…a four year old bourbon
12 year old Van Winkle's special reserve is a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey and this one was from Lot “B”. Van Winkle is a well-known name among the bourbon community which makes their product hard to get. All of their Bourbons are “wheated” or made from corn, wheat and barley which according to them gives a smooth taste and we agree. They now produce their bourbon at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, KY.
A wheated bourbon named after William Larue Weller who soe credit being among the first to use wheat instead of rye in straight bourbon. This was originally created by the Stitzel-Weller Distilling Company.
Only 30,000 bottles were ever produced of this limited edition bourbon, with 14,000 allocated to the US market. Aged in new heavily charred American oak barrels placed in the "center cut" of the distillery's oldest warehouse, it was bottled at 101 proof.
The first thing to know about this bourbon is that Jason purchased it mostly based on the wicked cool bottle. The bottle alone makes this a must own bourbon for your collection. We think the increased price can easily be justified to your wives or friends as “but I’m going to use the bottle over and over!” Call us shallow or simple, if you will, we scored an incredible bourbon and justified it to ourselves at the very least. The bottle tested in this tasting was 124/272 in batch #9628 .
A well known bourbon from bars to weddings; not to mention many people keep this as their own top shelf house bourbon. We raise our glasses to all our fellow drinkers, but suggest you branch out to more exotic bourbons in the future.
Bottle #23,630 of 36,334 total. According to their literature this is a Master's Collection "finished" in French Oak Pinot Noir barrels from California's Sonoma Cutrer Winery. The barrels were used to hold 3 nitages of Burgundian-style Pinot Noir. So we should all find hints of cherry, raspbery and blackberry.
