363 | 92 | 17 | Colonel E. H. Taylor Small Batch | Bottled in Bond. This is the classic bourbon whiskey bottle, with the tapered neck and tall classy body. These bottles are sometimes referred to as lady legs because of the taper and style. The label is very classy and this bottle just looks good in your liqueur cabinet. You might have to buy it just to look that cool. Just saying… | 100 | 1 | Jason | 1 | Pleasant | 3 | -3.00 | Somewhat (-3) | 0 | Neutral (0) | 2013.07.18 | Any house will enjoy this – a smooth 100 proof beverage; slightly sweet but with a weight to the liquid that holds many flavors while remaining smooth. | w/ Ice | https://www.thebourbonguide.com/coloneltaylorsmallbatch/ | https://www.thebourbonguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/TaylorSmallBatch.jpg | E.H. This bottle was the letter L – We have are not even close to collecting of the corks to spell B L A N T O N S. Honestly, we are big fan's of cool bottles and gimmicks, but this is just a little too much. Bourbon was dumped on 2011.08.15 from barrel no 23 stored in warehouse 11 on rick # 2 – giving us bottle #104. | 93 | 1 | Jason | 1 | Pleasant | 4 | 0.00 | Neutral (0) | 1 | Barely (1) | 2013.06.13 | My first drink of the day – and the first sip was full of burn and pepper between my lips and gums. Second try gave me confidence that this is a full bourbon and one that will put hair on your chest. The burn alone brought down my score. 371 | 75 | 3 | Belle Meade Bourbon | A friend of mine was in Tennessee and was at a liquor store reading labels to me to see if I needed anything for my collection. Over the phone he read the name of this bourbon and then added…”it has a classy bottle”…. and I was sold. I am a sucker for a nice bottle. 378 | 87 | 56 | Smooth Ambler Old Scout 6 year | 6 yrs. old 49.5% (101 proof) Batch 8; Bottle Date June 19, 2012; Bottled by JH; West Virginia. 398 | 95 | 25 | Evan Williams 1783 | This bourbon is a steal! It almost made us pass it on as a bottom shelf no name drink, but that would have been a major mistake. 402 | 77 | 27 | Filibuster Dual cask | 2 distinct oak barrels. Finished in French Oak barrels. The bottle tested was Batch 1, Bottle 3955 and was purchased in Washington DC. This is a 45% alcohol bourbon. This is a novelty type bourbon, and got some great reviews on-line and in magazines. We are lucky to have a bottle, but now that we tried it…we are stuck with a bottle. | 90 | 2 | Tripp | 1 | Pleasant | 2 | 0.00 | Neutral (0) | 1 | Barely (1) | 2013.03.02 | Sweet with wood, lots of wood. Like a sugary piece of oak in your mouth. There is the earthy finish that makes it only a +1 sweetness, but the wood is overwhelming. A very different flavor, but a flavor I would never reach for. 409 | 82 | 9 | Booker's 7 year Straight Bourbon Whiskey | Jim Beam makes this bourbon which is made straight from the barrel and is totally uncut – if you couldn’t tell at 127 proof. Holy cow! Use this to start fires if you are desperate…. might be a great camping bourbon for that reason. A little goes a long way. Old Forester puts out a new birthday bourbon each year. Some years are better than others. So as soon as 2013 is bottled and distributed it will be hard to find past years. These are really kind of fun to collect and compare year to year. Unfortunately they are often hard to find and have a much more spicy flavor than we normally enjoy. I guess big business is always big business – it is never just about being American owned and made. I digress… this drink is light colored which for a split second might make you think of a kids apple juice, but then you get a strong smell of alcohol and you know it is nothing of the sort. I think it smells of peat and earth and resembles a scotch. The aroma gives way to notes of cherries, maple syrup, waffle cones and wood spices on the palate, and leads to a finish accented by touches of caramel, charcoal and cocoa. 576 | 73 | 63 | Willett Pot Still Reserve | The first thing to know about this bourbon is that Jason purchased it mostly based on the wicked cool bottle. The bottle alone makes this a must own bourbon for your collection. We think the increased price can easily be justified to your wives or friends as “but I’m going to use the bottle over and over!” Call us shallow or simple, if you will, we scored an incredible bourbon and justified it to ourselves at the very least. Great site!! But then again I wrote it. Just getting the ball rolling!
Nice site and some good reviews! It seems Tripp and I share a preference for cigars and bourbon. I have considered several of the reviewed brands before and tried a few others. Now I have a few new brands to look out for and I know some not to waste my time with.
james, give me your feedback after you have tried a few. See if our reviews were accurate.
